Wastes generated in hospitals, clinics, healthcare facilities, laboratories and research centers are divided into general wastes and hazardous medical wastes:
NON-HAZARDOUS OR GENERAL WASTE
Waste that does not pose any particular biological, chemical, radioactive or physical hazard. This type of waste can be disposed of in landfills or waste incinerators, as long as it is properly managed.
HAZARDOUS MEDICAL WASTE
Hazardous medical waste is waste that can pose a significant health or environmental hazard. This type of waste includes:
Infectious waste: Waste contaminated with blood and other bodily fluids (e.g. from discarded diagnostic samples), cultures and stocks of infectious agents from laboratory work (e.g. waste from autopsies and infected animals from laboratories), or waste from patients with infections (e.g. swabs, bandages and disposable medical devices);
Pathological waste: Human tissues, organs or fluids, body parts and contaminated animal carcasses;
Sharps waste: Needles, disposable scalpels and blades, etc.;
Chemical waste: Solvents and reagents used for laboratory preparations, disinfectants, sterilants;
Pharmaceutical waste: Expired, unused and contaminated drugs and vaccines;
It is important to note that not all waste in hospitals is medical waste. According to WHO, about 15% of waste in hospitals and healthcare facilities is hazardous and counted to medical waste. A propitiate management of waste will help with reduction of medical waste and medical waste must be handled and disposed of carefully to prevent the spread of disease and environmental contamination.
NON-INCINERATION TECHNOLOGIES
INCINERATION TECHNOLOGIES
Medical waste autoclave is a special product, only high vacuum, high pressure autoclave or integrated autoclave with built-in shredder can be used to treat medical waste safely.
SAFE: stable operation, sterilizing waste even when shredder is absent or fails. Non like microwave or other pre-shredding or sterilization during shredding technologies, once shredder fails, sterilization cannot be done and brings infectious risks in maintenance.
RELIABLE: Low failure rate and long lifespan.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENLY: No emission, no chemical substance, no radiation, fully green process.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENLY:
Gasification temperature below 350°C, avoiding the temperature range of dioxins formation. Continuously emission less than 0.1ng-TEQ/Nm3. More environmentally friendly than non-incineration technologies.
WIDE APPLICATION:
Treats all types of medical waste and turns all organic matters to white ashes.
LOW OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE COST:
Electricity is the only energy required.
Refractory material is greatly reduced, so as to reduce maintenance cost.
